Funan Techo Canal project
Applicable Industries: Energy

The Funan Techo Canal is a planned 180 km canal in Cambodia that will link the Phnom Penh Autonomous Port with Kep and the Gulf of Thailand. The projected deadline for completion is 2028. The anticipated cost is 1.7 billion USD.

The project is fully financed by the China Bridge and Road Cooperation (CBRC), which is presently (March 2024) engaged in a feasibility assessment of the project. The project will be executed under a BOT (build-operate-transfer) agreement.
Presently, Cambodia primarily depends on utilizing Vietnamese ports, particularly the port of Cai Mep. The implementation of the new canal would greatly diminish this reliance. Vietnam has likewise expressed heightened environmental apprehensions.
